1964
Jean-Luc Lagardère creates Matra Sports and begins automobile competition. Key sector in image, ambience and challenge, in order to re-orient Matra’s image, a company renowned world-wide for its high technology productions, but whose main activity is centred almost exclusively around armament.

First victory for Matra Sports in Formula 3, with the Matra MS 1 driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise on 1st July 1965 in Reims.

1968
At the end of 1967 – start of 1968, the constructor enters Formula 1, firstly with a prototype driven by Jackie Stewart, then with true F1 cars: the MS 10 and 11, which carried off three Grand Prix victories that year.

The Matra-Ford team wins both the Formula 1 drivers’ championship and the constructors’ championship (Jackie Stewart in the MS80).

First victory on the Le Mans 24-hour circuit with the pairing of Henri Pescarolo and Graham Hill in an MS 670.

Another win at Le Mans. The Matra team wins the constructors’ world championship for prototype sports cars with Henri Pescarolo and Gérard Larousse in the MS 670 B.

Jean-Luc Lagardère, in front of the automobile press, turns the page on Matra’s competitive history after recalling their extraordinary list of honours : 124 victories, 4 world titles and 3 consecutive victories at Le Mans.
